Studying Online while awaiting PR

So if I'm in Canada with legal status (TRVexempt country) awaiting my PR through spousal sponsorship, am I allowed to study online through distance learning with an institution based in another country? Am I right in assuming that I would not need a student visa for that?

Correct, you do not require a study permit for that.
