Hi everybody,
i live in Italy and I'm now at 10th grade. I'd like to know something more about the post-secondary school education in Canada - how does it work? in Italy, you do 13 years of school: elementary schhol - 5 years, middle school - 3 years and high school - 5 years.
So I'm in second year at high school and i'm doing the applied sciences.
I want to finish the high school here, and then i'd like to study in Canada. I want to became a doctor. So, after the high school, if I go to Canada, what shall I do? I don't understand the canadian education system. I can go to the university as soon as i finish the high school?
What is the difference between medical school and medical university? How long should I study to became a doctor?
Please help me:)

After high school, you could join college or university straight away. people prefer to complete the first 2 years of their degree in a college and transfer the credits to an university to complete the next 2 years because college's are cheaper. but most college's do not have accredited medical schools as far as i know. so i think you should start with university and a good one for that matter. i'm not exactly sure of the path way leading to becoming a doctor but here's a rough idea. you complete a 4 years degree in pre-medicine. and then you have to get industry experience some where for some time and then you choose your specialty in doing the MBBS or MD. upon completing the final exams, you will be a doctor. but i suggest you consult an expert to get a much accurate picture :) .

I can surely help u on this.
In Canada Bachelors is of 4 years .You will have to complete your 13th years of education from Italy(schooling) then you will have to apply for bachelor degree,U will receive some University credits(12-18 credits because ur having 13th years of schooling where as in Canada u enter uni after 12th grade) so after getting credits U will be left with 3.5 years of bachelors .
Now You have told that you want to become doctor,so it is really a lengthy procedure.
Just consider this:
1:Schooling from italy:13 years

2:3.5 years bachelor degree(as told above): Any bioscience bachelor even Biomedical engineering will work if ur interested in engineering and then medical school.(In canada you enter medical&law school after bachelors).

3:After that it is best to go for post study work visa( u will get it for 3 years) get some Canadian work experience(around 2 years) and then canadian PR status .

4:After getting PR status u can get into medical school and It will take 3 years.(u can get into medical school straight after bachelors but getting PR first is preferred method).

5: now after that u will have to complete 2 years of medical residency requirement .

6: you are a doctor now! congarts ;ppp
it is really a lengthy procedure bro! but if u can get it it pays off!
best of luck

Oh, I have one more question. As i know, post secondary education costs more for international students than for candian ones (for example, university of ottawa:
Canadian student fees
Undergraduate tuition fees: $5,421
Graduate tuition fees: $6,550 - $8,748
International student fees
Undergraduate tuition fees: $17,080
Graduate tuition fees: $15,706 )
But after getting PR status, will I pay as an International Student all the same?
