Hi everyone,

I invited my mother and brother to Canada to visit for 6months, this falls inbetween the school semester
I am wondering what the options are for my brother to study/attend school here while he is on visitor?

I've heard a few different things such as a custodian form and aplying for study permit etc

edit:brother is 15 years old

He would need to apply for a study permit. The fact that your mother and brother are currently visiting will likely be problematic. They were given permission to visit Canada not to live in Canada. If your brother wants to study in Canada the best option would be to return home and reestablish ties and then apply for a study permit. Your brother studying in Canada does not guarantee that your mother can remain in Canada. Would add applying for a study permit may cause problems getting a TRV in the future for the family because they have expressed the desire to live in Canada.

He would need a study permit and you would need to be prepared to pay around $15k in tuition.

Unless you have significant funds leftover after securing savings for retirement/your own families future it is best to pay for a post secondary degree versus grade school. You’d need to show you can pay tuition and living costs and have source of funds for subsequent years.

So you need to talk to the school board or private school, and get letter of admission and pay fees. He will pay international fees and want to also show living expenses. Est. $25k/year. Processing is around 14 weeks and is processed from home country. He will need to show ties to return and explain why studying in Canada if a visitor.

That explains why most visitor of that age won't be able to visit for such long period of time.
He will need a study permit applied from his home country. Your mother needs to provide proof of fund for him to pay for the schooling and living expenses while studying in Canada.
