Hi guys, I'm currently studying in the US and am wondering if anyone might have any advice.

So my situation is kind of messy, I immigrated to Canada with my parents under pr status and have been in such status since 2003.
Last year I was offered a full scholarship to an elite university in the states, which is worth $40,000/year so I decided to go.

My dad and I also applied for Canadian citizenship last March (I as a minor) and we fulfilled the residency requirement for sure since at that time, we've only been out of the country for two weeks since 2003. We sent in all required forms, ie. my school records, tax returns, mortgage, etc. However, my dad got a residency questionnaire last November, we sent it all required forms again in a week.

So my question is, should I separate from my dad's application now that I'm 18 and can apply by myself? We were all very surprised that my dad got the RQ and we feel like if I apply, it would be just ridiculous that cic would doubt that I don't meet the residence requirement since I can provide my high school attendance down to the day.

Also, with the 48 months wait period that comes with the RQ, I will probably lose pr status since I still have 3.5 years left before I can get my degree, what does that mean towards my citizenship application? Also my parents are still living in Canada, if I lose my pr status, can my parents sponsor me again?

According to the rules they say you need to be a PR at the time citizenship is granted, so it sounds like you'll need to maintain your PR status for the extent of your citizenship application. You'll need to take care to make sure you do that, normally they say you need to be in the country for 2 out of 5 years so maybe you could take a year out in your course to spend a year working in Canada. There is also a clause whereby you can maintain PR status if you have significant ties to Canada. I would assume that having your parents there and the fact you are only away to study would be ok to maintain status but you might want to check that.
