Hello everyone,

I am a student at McGill University from France. I was supposed to get a visa for four years (from sept 2010 to May 2014), but my passport expires on the 20th of October. I am getting it renewed. I am studying for one more semester at McGill only, but I would like to stay in MTL in the winter semester also. I think my original CIC certificate (and CAQ) are valid until May 2014, so I wonder if I can just renew my student visa until then, even though I only going to be studying for one more semester.

Alternatively (since I'd like to work at least part-time in the winter), do you think it would be wise to tell the truth, see what they say, get a student visa until december and in the meantime apply for a work permit for the winter?

Just weighing my options here, if anyone can shed light on this thing, thank you very much,

Corentin

When you apply for the extension of your study permit you will need to upload a confirmation of registration letter. In that letter it will be written when your program ends and it is going to be the same date that is stated on your original letter of acceptance. So the study permit will be issued for the length of the program plus additional 3 months. It means if your program officially ends in February, your Study Permit will be issued until May.
