Hi,

I came to Canada in 2015 to study English and then start a Master degree. I did one English Course and then I work during summer without studying while I was applying for the university. I got my acceptance and I started my Master Degree in September 2015 (changing my study permit which means applying again and everything was fine). Now, I had to apply for a study permit extension due to my passport is going to expire at the end of March 2017. I apply on January with a new passport and I didn't have an answer yet. It is taking more time that the normal processing time.

I am afraid that they are going to refused my study permit extension, if that so what options do I have?

1. Pay a lawyer (it is worthy?) I just want to finish my degree, I am so close.
2. Married with my girlfriend? I mean that's an option to me but I won't be able to study, only work right?

1. Lawyer won't really help and will cost you money.
2. Marrying your girlfriend will not allow you to work or attend school. Marrying a Canadian entitles you to no immediate benefits. Your wife would have to sponsor you for PR before you would be entitled to any benefits - and that will take many months.

Why do you think your study permit extension is going to be refused? Did you do anything to violate the terms of your study permit or your status in Canada?

First of all, thank you so much for taking your time to answer me. I really appreciate it.

Secondly, my girlfriend holds a work permit and I understand that if we get married I can apply for an open work permit attach it with her. It is that right?

I was working during summer on campus without studying because I was waiting for my acceptance letter for my master degree. The thing is the first time that applied my study permit was successfully granted and now it is taking more time that the normal processing time (2 weeks more).

The processing times have been ridiculously slow. Its probably because of the huge number of PR applications coming in. My permit has taken nearly four weeks and I still haven't heard back, there's a guy in this forum who hasn't heard back since November, but that's very unusual. I don't think they will refuse your permit, they might just take a little longer.

Thanks for replying!

One of the things that worry me more is that a friend of mine applied the same day that me and he got an answer 2 weeks ago. Now, this keep me overthinking and because I have that background I thinking of possible solutions.

It's possible you may qualify for an open work permit if you get married. What type of work permit does your girlfriend hold? Does she have a full time job that is NOC A, B or 0? You may also need to convince CIC that you didn't get married solely for immigration purposes by providing strong relationship proof.
