Dear friends,

I'm in a situation, when I have Study permit, that expires in 2013, but my TRV is valid only till 28th of August this year.
I'm now outside of Canada for summer, and going to continue my undergraduate study in September.

Now question: should I start application for the new multiple entry TRV for the next, 2011 year, from my home contry Kazakhstan? Now?

Or shall I start application for new TRV later, after my arrival to Canada in August?

Thank you.

Well, it all depends on you. If you are arriving in Canada before the 28th August, then you don't necessarily need to renew your TRV in Kazakhstan. If there is a chance that you may get delayed and travel after 28 August, then you better apply for the TRV in Moscow just to be safe (guess Moscow serves Kazakhstan). It also depends on how much time it takes to get a TRV from Moscow including postal delays. I would suggest that if you are sure you will be back in Canada before 28 August, wait and apply for the TRV at the nearest Canada visa office in the US. It is a pretty straightforward process.

Hi, Essat,

thank you so much for your detailed reply. You are right, getting TRV at Moscow office takes about 2 month (including medical examination). That is why I'm so concerned.
If you have time, please expain, how can I apply for new TRV from Canada, after my coming back mid of August?

Regards,

Alex

You will need to send a TRV application to any of the six Canadian Visa Offices in the US - Buffalo, Seattle, Detroit, Washington, New York or Los Angeles. You can either apply by mail or in person, and it is usually advisable to appy at the office nearest to your current residence in Canada.

Generally, you will need to provide (Check Visa Office specific requirements):
-TRV Application (IMM 5257)
For the Seattle office, the link is here: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/seattle/imm/visa_temp.aspx?lang=eng#REQUIREMENTSALL
For buffalo, follow the links here: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/buffalo/imm/visa_temp.aspx?lang=eng
Please look up the websites of the other visa offices if you are not near Seattle or Buffalo
- A photocopy of your current permit
- Originals of your most recent transcript
- Valid passport
- Photos (check requirements from the website)
- Proof of current enrolment

- Fees

Don't forget to read the Visa Office's 'Document return' policies i.e. Return of passport after visa is granted.

Note that you do not need to apply for the TRV immediately when you return in August - You can always apply a few months before you intend to travel out of Canada - but ofcourse it's always safer to have the visa ready - never know when you will need it!
