Study permit for less than 6 months

Hi everybody!

My name is Paula and I'm from Brazil. Well, I've recently applied for my study visa (it's currently at the medical exams step - the doctor sent to the embassy this week) although I'm registered for a 2 months program at UBC, starting in June. I'm willing to continue in Canada after this program is complete and apply to another (an longer) one, maybe a masters. However I was wondering for how long would the study permit be valid to, because I wouldn't be able to apply for a graduate program in July (so I won't have the acceptance letter in time) if they give me only a 2 month permit and also considering a 30 days minimun in order to renew the permit.

Have you seen a case like mine? I have been told that the immigration officer can provide a 6 month study permit even if I'm registered for 2, is that correct?

1. For "minor children" (in grades 9 to 12/attending a post-secondary institution), the study permit is valid for the "length of time of studies (even if the duration of course is less thn 6 months) + 90 days".

I am NOT sure if this rule (or something similar) is applicable in your case.

For most students attending courses of 8 months or longer, can apply for a Post Graduation Work Permit. The 90 days transition period allows them to get proof of their graduation and apply for the work permit without being out of status.

Sorry, but I think I'm not following. What do you mean by post graduation work permit? I'm not attending to any university program yet, how would I proof that I'm going to do that to the immigration officer once I arrive in Canada?

1. probably 2 months plus a couple of weeks, but it is quite possible that you would be admitted for 6 months. CHC doesn't usually issue study permits for courses of less than 6 months, usually only if the student intends to continue their studies will one be issued for less than 6 months. In addition, could I enroll, in my home country, in a 3 weeks program to start after this 2 month program I mentioned before? I would have the letter of acceptance letter in time for the travel and could present it at the immigration in Canada.

Is it possible even if I already sent everything regarding documents and my studies to the Immigration?
