Hello everyone,
I married my husband, a Canadian citizen, in August and we sent off our Inland Spousal Sponsorship application this week. It is my plan to apply for SOWP as quickly as possible.
I am looking for advice concerning my son´s schooling. He is 13, in 8th grade, and we are currently on visitor status (eTA). We would have to extend our status in late January while waiting for PR. As he can´t attend school, yet, he´s studying with me at home.
I have always had sole custody for my son, but he is in close contact with his father. They are planning to spend roughly 3 weeks in Mexico over Christmas to visit family. The timing isn´t ideal but I do not want to keep them apart. I will remain in Canada with my husband. My son and his father (and new family) will return to Canada together, my son booked onto a connecting flight to our location here in Canada, while my ex will be returning on a different flight to Europe from Ontario. I suspect they will not go through passport control together.

- If I receive AOR and can apply for SOWP before my son returns to Canada in mid-January, will he be able to apply for his study permit at the airport upon re-entry?
- Would it make sense to apply for a study permit from within Mexico instead?
- Would it be a better/ smarter option that my Canadian husband become my son's custodian, applying for a study permit from within the country? If so, could my son still leave Canada and return as planned?
