Study Permit Extension Query

Hi Everyone,

I'm MEng from university of University of Waterloo. My study permit and work permit both expire on Nov 30 2015. I would like to extend my visa as I'm still a student. However, this is my last term (Ends Dec 30 2015) and I enrolled as a part time student as I have just one course to meet the degree requirements. Also, I failed in two courses (emotional issues) and took two terms off (I was all outta of student loan. So I had to work to pay my tuition). My average is higher than the minimum university requirements. So, my question is what are my chances of getting an extension. Will the failed courses hamper my chances? What is the funding proof I need to show? Pls help. Thank You

Did you work during the two terms when you were off and not attending school? If so, that could be a problem. There's really only one way to find out. You'll have to apply for the extension and see what happens.

Yes, I worked for those two terms. I had valid work permit. Some of my friends did two internships and I though it wouldn't be any problem. And for financial proof, can I show the tuition fees paid and $2k in my canadian bank account?

Your work permit is only valid as long as you are still a full time student. If you stop attending school - you need to stop working as well. Your friends were able to work because their programs included internships. Yours didn't - therefore your work was illegal. Hard to say whether this will influence your renewal or not.
