Hi people,

I am currently studying at U of A, MSc thesis based program. My study permit expires on 31 Aug, 2014. I applied for the extension till Jan 2016. I started my program in Jan 2013 and in the enrollment letter from university, the maximum end date of my course can be Jan 7, 2017. Therefore, I put Jan 2016 as expected date of completion for my program in the SP extension application.
I got a message on MyCIC saying that the application has been approved. But the problem is that it got extended till 30 Nov, 2014 only, not till 2016. I called up CIC and told them that it could be a mistake. He told me that, since I am registered till 31 Aug, 2014(ongoing semester) in the school, that's why the officer extended it till Nov, 14. I told him that I can not register for study terms till 2016 right now, I can only register only for a current semester, Why you don't consider the expected date of completion. He said that's how it works and officer did not make a mistake.
According to this, I figure that expected date of graduation, end date of approval of program on the enrollment letter does not mean anything on the application. Visa officer only decides based on for how long I am registered in the program. This frankly does not make sense, since I can only register for the current semester.
Please give suggestions on how to proceed and get my SP extended till 2016.

If you can register for your next semester well before Nov 14 (say in the month of October 1st or before itself), then you can again extend your study permit to the next semester or if its your final semester then you can extend it till the last date of your course + 90 days.
