Study Permit Extension & PGWP Eligibility Concern

Hi Everyone,

I have a question regarding my study permit extension. I am currently an international student at Red Deer Polytechnic, and my study permit is about to expire. I want to apply for an extension, but I am concerned about my eligibility for the Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP).

When I first applied to Red Deer Polytechnic, my program was eligible for PGWP. However, with the new rules coming into effect in November 2024, I am worried that my new study permit might impact my eligibility. If I apply for an extension after November 2024, will I still qualify for PGWP under the previous regulations, or will I be subject to the new rules?

I would appreciate any guidance or insights on this matter.

Thank you!

You are still eligible.

I asked agent and they said there is no proof for the submission.
So you don’t know if they did it and IRCC is telling you that they were not notified. I find it hard to believe that your agent has no proof. Log into your IRCC account and see when submissions were made. You may have issues because you are studying at a DLI that is not listed on your study permit, and IRCC has no record of any submission of changing DLIs.

You need an immigration lawyer. So now you have to submit a new study permit explaining that you changed DLIs and began studying at the new DLI without notifying IRCC. If current program is not eligible for PGWP, then you may not be eligible. You are responsible, not the agent, for making sure all documentation/changes etc are submitted.

But I Paid the fees for agent and i don't know the DLI should be updated by me or agent. I don't know it's my fault or agent?
To IRCC it is always your fault. Whenever a form or submission is sent, there are statements saying that you are responsible for all information provided even if you use an agent. You are responsible for knowing the rules and you paid an agent with the expectation that they would follow the rules and guide you correctly.

You really need to find out if agent submitted the change in DLI. Saying they have no proof is crazy as they would have submission emails.

Your agent represented you. You should be following up with your agent.
If your agent mess up and lied, you can try to complain. But it will not change that your DLI wasn't properly updated.
Seek help from an immigration lawyer.
