Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out a few things about the future of my study permit and any visa that should be associated with it.

Details:
Current Passport expiry: 27 Dec 2016
Study and Work permit expiry: 22 April 2014 (I'm currently doing an internship in a company under a program from my school)
Temporary resident visa: Expired, in the process of applying again.

The study and work permit expiry was based on the expiry date of my previous passport. Till now I thought it would be ok, since my exams will be done by that time. But now I realize that I may also need something for my convocation which will be held in June/July. I was going to apply for post graduate work permit, but my results will not be out till the middle of May.
So potentially, I may be without a status for a month. I understand that there is a 90 day grace period, but I'm not sure how exactly does it work. What should I do in a situation like this?

As for the Temporary resident visa application I am doing right now, is it likely that it will have a validity beyond my study permit date? If not, I will have to apply again in a year, but then I will have to have a different reason for doing so, is that correct?

Any help is appreciated.

1. Apply for a Bridge Extension Visa, it will give you maximum 90 days to cover up required things. You can apply for TRV based on your valid SP.
