Study permit approved but no passport request

Hi all,

I am a Ph.D. student in Canada. I recently applied to extend both my study permit and student visa. I received an e-mail last week stating that my application to extend my study permit has been approved and shall be sent to me by mail but they have not requested for my passport. In fact, their letter does not even say anything about the visa.

Following an earlier post on this forum, I sent an e-mail to the Canadian embassy in both Ottawa and LA requesting advice but I am yet to hear back. Any advice on what to do? I need to travel soon and I'm afraid that I won't be allowed back into the country without my visa.

Are you sure you applied for a new TRV, and not an extension of your visitor status?
So, your visa in your current passport is already expired, is that it? Or it will expire before you have to return to Canada?

Oh I just realized that study permit application and TRV application are separate. Sorry for the confusion but I thought both could be done simultaneously. Thank you for pointing that out.

I have commenced the visa application and it asks that I submit the IMM5257 (application for a TRV made outside Canada) although I am currently still in Canada. Is this normal?

Hi, I just happen to read this thread and need some help as well. I'm in Canada and also applied for study permit extension (plus my daughter's, who is a minor as an elementary student and my husband's that has the OWP) We all got the approvals and the original documents from the Vegreville office in Alberta, BUT we were never asked to send our passports. In the application package we filled the Schedule 1 form Application for Temporary Residence.

Still I feel I need the passport sealed.
Is there any other application I have to complete? In that case which one? And, BTW, I'm from Argentina. I comment on this because I understand that some countries may have differences.
Pleaseee, help! Thanks :)
