Hi all,
I very recently joined this thread after skimming through loads of useful information posted by some of you who seem to be very well informed about the Canadian Visa process. Here is my background:
I moved to Dubai in March 2011 on a resident visa and decided to apply to US schools to pursue an MBA. I got admitted to one of the Top 10 programs (a really good school) and following my marriage in Feb 2012 I applied for an F-1 Visa for myself and an F-2 Visa for my wife at the US Consulate in Dubai. Our applications were refused and the reason sighted was lack of sufficient funds despite showing sufficient proof of adequate funding (you all probably know how the process is. Once the Visa officer decides to refuse the Visa, they don't listen to anything you say). I contacted my school and they intervened and I submitted a second application but this time to the US Embassy in Abu Dhabi. Our applications were approved this time round. However, our cases went in to "administrative processing" (background check) and continue to remain there since the past 5 and a half months. With my school joining deadline gone, I received a deferral from them to join in August 2013.
Following this episode, I decided that I would rather pursue an MBA from a school in Canada as immigration to Canada is much quicker compared to the US. I applied to one of the top programs in the earliest round and received admission. However, in order to arrange funding for this school, I'm required to visit Canada and meet with the representatives of the bank with which this school has a loan arrangement for international students. Hence I received an invitation from the school to visit the campus and applied for a TRV to the Canadian Embassy in Abu Dhabi on August 11, 2012 to come to Canada for a week to sort out the loan. Upon not receiving a response form the Embassy until September 5, 2012, I wrote to the Embassy and they responded saying that my TRV application is undergoing background check and they will contact me as soon as that is complete.
As my program starts in March 2013, I decided to arrange back-up funding in order to apply for the Study Permit application by early October 2013 (don't want to experience the US Visa episode again with my Canadian Study permit application so I want to apply as early as possible). My plan is that in case the TRV application does not come through in time for me to go to Canada and sort out the loan, atleast I will have my study permit application submitted and under processing. Now my question is whether I can submit the study permit application even though my TRV application is under background check? how will this affect my chances of a study permit application and whether my study permit application will also go through a background check?
The biggest question I have is whether my visa applications to Canada (TRV and Study permit) will be affected in any way given my US student visa application has been in administrative processing for so long?
I would really appreciate an insight from you guys on my situation? any help/suggestion is welcome.
Thanks,
Arsalan
