Hi everyone!

I applied for a visitor visa in Canada few months ago to visit my brother and it got refused by the embassy.(main reasons: no ties, migration history). However, I want to apply for a study permit now that I finished my studies.

My situation is like this. I am from Albania but I have been living in Greece for almost 15 years. I have only Albanian citizenship though.
My parents live in Greece as well. Also, my brother is a Canadian citizen and lives in Canada having his own family. I just finished my studies (undergraduate) here and I want to study further in Canada. I plan to come back of course after my studies because of my parents and my boyfriend. I am wondering if is it better to find a job in Albania and to apply from there? Or it doesn't matter so to apply again from Greece (my only concern is that I am considered an immigrant)?

Does a visitor refusal play role in all this? Having a job is preferable than not having? And where is better to apply from? I am really confused because I have read some study permit refusal situations and I don't understand why it happens. If a university admits you then why you just can't go?

Thank you very much!

Hi,

With a valid status, you can apply from your country of residence. And you need a credible level of establishment/family tie. You can prove it by way of any job/work history, bank account detials, education, property details. In other words, you should have something to show your level of establishment in Greece.

Thanks for your reply. Actually I am not even a resident. I have only a study permit.
I recently finished my studies so I don't have a work history. I don't understand what is the point of getting a job just for couple of months.
My family owns a house in Albania though but not in Greece. So do you suggest that is it better to go back there and apply from there?

Hi,

In case you apply from Albania, you will have to move back (physically) to Albania and apply after showing your strong ties to Albania. There is generally no time frame to live in your country of residence before you put off application for study permit.

However, when you apply you MUST be able to show/convince Visa officer that you intend to return back home after you complete your course. You need to show ties to Albania (or Greece, in case you apply from there) and you need proof like; job, education, account details, family, property etc.
