Hi, I have a question. I know that if I study in Canada, I can apply for a work permit for my wife after approx. Eight months of study. However, we would not like to be parted, can she come over with me on a tourist visa and not work, then apply for the work permit after the qualifying time?

We have enough funds to support ourselves. Thanks in advance.

So where did you see that you could not apply until 8 months had passed ? Maybe you are confusing the rules for the need for a study permit ?

Assuming your wife is visa exempt and others can correct me but it could be possible for your wife to apply for a work permit at the same time as you arrive to activate your study permit. Would still need all the forms ready to present but as long as you will be in full time education on a study permit then that’s an option or otherwise just apply in advance.

Entering as a visitor as a visa exempt making sure your wife has an ETA is another option and submit an application once in Canada .

Your wife can apply for a work permit right away. No need to wait until 8 months.

Agreed best apply straight away so you arrive with everything in place , study permit and spouse permit so then you are all set as opposed to sorting the latter out in Canada.
