Hey!
I've gotten myself into a pickle and would love to get some advice on potential solutions.

Landed here in Canada last month on a study permit valid for 4 years. Received a job offer today to work for a firm with minimum hours around 24 /week.

The immigration website points towards a 20 hr/week schedule but does satisfy the current offer that I have in hand.

Approached the University advisor, who told me that it's fine to work 24hrs as long as you don't exceed 25hrs while being a full time student.

I convinced the HR to give me 24hrs one week and 16hrs the next so that it averages 40 hrs every two weeks.

Thought it get some advice from your folks out here on your work timings

You cannot work off-Campus for more than 20 hours a week. You can't "average" it out.

You need to get your job offer changed to 20 hours a week or refuse it. If you work illegally, your study permit will be cancelled and you'll have issues every single time you try and get a Canadian visa.

Is that worth 4 hours of extra work a week?

And your University needs to hire a new advisor. Here's the official source from the Government of Canada

As said above, there is no "averaging". You are illegally working.

If an advisor actually told you that, you need to complain ASAP. That is completely irresponsible.
