Student Visa Validity

Hi,

My Nephew got admission in university of Waterloo for mechanical under-grad study, starting Fall2011. He also received the passport with Visa but he is confused about the dates.

Date of issue: 02/08/2011
Expiry date: 23/06/2012

Ideally it should be for 4 years, full time required for engineering. His passport expires in July 2012, is it because of that? If yes, I know that the passport can be renewed in Indian high commission, Toronto but what about the student visa?

Please share your thoughts and ideas.

It is very rare when someone gets visa for full length of time. Generally 1.5 or 2 years (sometimes even less then that, completely depends on VO) validity is given and that can be increased later accordingly. I guess they do this so that people don't go messing around without studying (like working and stuffs) since when one needs to extend, they need university's permission too. So, you don't have to worry about this matter
