Hello,

My young cousin a Nigerian citizen who applied for and was accepted to study in The Great Lakes College of Toronto was refused a Canadian student visa for the following reasons:

You have not satisfied me that you will leave Canada by the end of the period authorized for your stay because:-

1. That his sponsor, his father does not have sufficient funds in his account. (Parents' income and assets are insufficient to support the studies).

2. That the share certificates of his dad’s shares/stock look fake.

3. That they are not satisfied with his transcript (school result).

The irony is that all the documents (bank statements, share certificates, school result, police report etc) are all genuine and can be verified with the Nigerian Stock Market, Zenith bank, Nigerian police force, the school he attended and the WAEC board etc.

Please someone should advice me on how to go about appealing the refusal of the visa because the funds are available and we want the bright young lad to get a student visa and travel to Canada to start his school September this year.

God bless you as you reply.

I don't think that bonafide applicants are allowed to appeal any temporary case, becuase bonafide applicants have to prove and satisify an officer that they will leave canada at the end of there studies. Whereas Non-Bonafide applicants don't have to prove that they will leave canada (I didn't have to). So you will have to apply again with notorized documents, and sufficient funds. I am not an expert but i think he should try a community college insted of Great Lakes because that is like a secondary school and visa's rearly get issue for secondary school.

I agree with grim.

There is another way out, If you have any one in Canada you can ask them to sponsor him and in that case I am pretty sure that the visa will be issued for the secondary school student.

Great lakes offer prep courses for university/college which range from 2-5 months, so my guess is that he was going for a high school course. I really can't speak on the behalf of a visa officer but reading different post on here officers like to see colleges and universities. Most people apply for a visa for Post-secondary education anyway. Rearly secondary, you may have a few.

My advise to you, take a close look at the rejection letter, the answers are right there. Work on them then reapply. If he apply again and nothing has changed his app will be rejected as soon as it is received.
