Hi,

My girlfriend of 6 yrs and I (female as well) are planning to move to Canada. We were told by one of the immigration companies here in the Philippines that we can apply for a student visa (her) and common-law partner visa (me).

We're wondering if this is really possible or if this really has a high chance of approval. We're looking into taking this path so that one of us can really focus on getting a job. We can also both do the student visa pathway, but it would mean lesser work or job opportunities for the first 2 yrs.

Thanks for helping us out.

So you can prove common law?

Yeah, I guess so. We lived together since we started our relationship. Our contract for the apartment we're renting is under both our names. We can also prove thru pictures. Any other ways we can prove it?

You can apply for an SOWP as the common law partner of an international student but the SOWP isn’t guaranteed. What type of degree will she be doing? There seems to be a higher chance of approval with more advanced degrees. Do you have proof of extra funds to support another person?
