Hi, I'm applying for a Masters in Information Technology which is a core programming masters in Canada.

I have a B.E in Electronics(Instrumentation & Control) with 79.6% from India.

I don't have an idea about the visa process, so I wanted to ask about it. I'm sure ill get an admit due to my projects in CS & 6 month internship in software.

Now my question is, how are my chances for a student visa, provided my sop, ielts, finances and all are strong? Is there any dispute since i'm changing my field of study? If so what can I do to strengthen my case?

P.S I also have a job but i'm not willing to work yet, i'm willing to get a degree in cs/it first. I'm 23 years old & just graduated.

You need to show ties to India (family, property, etc.) and explain why studying in Canada in a different field will improve your job prospects there. And of course you need to show you can easily access your funds in Canada.

You probably have a decent case as master's applicants are looked upon much more favourably than those going for post-graduation diplomas and certificates.

Hey thanks for the info, i'm feeling better about my chances now. Another thing, i've heard the sop needs to be really strong for field change. Can I put in information about all projects, MOOC courses, internship work, LORs from my manager & CPO etc?

Also my sister is studying nursing in canada as well, will that have a negative or positive impact?

Cheers.

The SOP/letter of explanation is important but remember, it will be read by someone who has a few minutes to decide on your application. Details are good but make sure your main points are clear and it's no longer than 300 to 400 words (about a page).

Your sister could be a negative factor as it theoretically increases the likelihood that you will not leave when you're supposed to, but there's nothing you can do there. Focus on establishing clear ties to India and why doing a course in Canada makes sense for when you return there.
