Hello,
My fiancé and I are getting married in Canada in December. He is Colombian and I am Canadian but we both work and study in Colombia until at least June 2013. He would like to apply for a Masters program in Canada for September 2013, however we would also like to apply for permanent residency in January after we get married. I'm not really sure how to go about this. If we started the PR process and he was to get accepted into a Masters program, would he be able to get a student visa while waiting on his PR visa? Would we be better off not starting the PR visa application and hope he comes in on a student visa (he current has a multiple entry TR visa). Could we apply for a PR visa if he is studying in Canada? I really can't find the right answer of what to do. Also, I have savings and partially own a house in Canada but likely wont have a job when we return. How can I prove how I will support us (I am educated and have employable skills but may not secure employment ahead of time) and that we intend to stay in Canada? Thank you!!!

Thanks for the response. I'm wondering if it will be more difficult for him to get his student visa if he is married to a Canadian. Any experiences or ideas to share? Thanks.

Hey I don't think so.. Cuz for student visa all he has to show that he got admission in university
And no it won't affect your PR application

Does it ask on the student visa application if he has any other applications in progress or if he has ever applied for any other type of visa? If so, he would have to be honest and say he has a TRV and has submitted a PR application. I know it can negatively affect future TRV applications, but not in his case, because he has a valid one anyway. I do not know if it would affect a student visa... depends if they ask about current/previous visa applications I suppose.
