Hello there! I wanted to ask if anyone has had a similar experience or knows the answer but... I'm a student and have no PGWP eligibility but my employer has agreed to sponsor me. The thing is, we are still waiting for their approved LMIA but my permit is set to expire at the end of the month. IRCC has already provided me with instructions on what to do to get maintained status while waiting but my problem is regarding the start date for duration of employment. I know it has to be what the employer puts in the offer letter but are there other considerations to that I.E. my graduation date and if they are fiscal/calendar year, etc? I would appreciate any help you could give as I really don't know what to put now. Thank you so much!!!

If you don’t have an approved work permit to maintain status you are applying to change status to visitor. You cannot work until work permit is approved.

If you don’t have approved LMIA and haven’t even applied for a work permit then you are months away from being able to work. Change status to visitor and once you have approved LMIA then apply for closed work permit. To change status to visitor, you don’t need a work date.

May you help me with some feedback, please. How long it took to be approved for LMIA? Is it difficult for example for a private school in Toronto to be aaproved for LMIA to give job offer to an international student on a study permit, or easy to get approved? What is lenght for the whole proccess to obtained a closed work permit? A crucial question, can I drop out and cancel my study permit and swith to only a status of closed work permit via a specific employer? Or there is no way legally and I am obligated to continue on a study permit as an international student? Some says that I can not at all change completly and directly from a study permit to work permit, instead that I have virst to drop study permit and obtain a visting visa status, then apply for a closed work permit??!! Can you or anyone with knowledge help me out, please? Thanks

Do you have an approved LMIA with your name on it? If not can be difficult as you need to prove you are the only one qualified experienced enough to do the job (reference letters, ECA, language). Process can be long as LMIA needs to processed and then wait for approved closed work permit. Check LMIA and work permit processing times. Would not quit studying unless work permit is approved.

I am not quit studying at all. I just want to be ONLY on Closed Work Permit. Instead of waiting until I gradute, the, apply for open work permit, I prefer I start the real track of accounted for immigration working experince points that will help me be on fastest track to Permenant Residency! Is that sound? I am working now at the same school that will sponser me. They will apply for LMIA. My basic question is about the ability to switch from study to work permit, directly and fully without having to switch first to visitor visa then later to work permit? and any infor about how long it will take.

I posted this question in another thread as the following:
I am a master degree international student in Tornto, I am half way through> For all reasons and since I have a job offer from a private school here, I want to end my study permit, and apply for a closed work permit. Would this prevent me from continueing as a "domistic student" on my pace? Other aspecys, how long it took to be approved for LMIA? So you are eligible for an open work permit. You cannot switch permits. You apply for a closed work permit with approved LMIA and you prove you are the only person who can do the job. What is the NOC?

If you have a job offer then is the employer eligible and willing to pay $1k and file for a LMIA. Are you experienced to do the job? Is it skilled. Check IRCC processing times for work permit and ESDC LMIA processing times.

If you drop out then you must maintain status and switch to visitor. You cannot work until closed work permit is approved so have a lot of money to not work for many months.

The point is I want to gain the benefits of being ONLY on a closed work permit, that is: to pay school'ss fees as a "domestic" student, start gathering points to be eligible for PR's Express Entery program, and any other benefits that come a long! Am I thinking properly or on a shaky justification ground? Yes, my emplyer will do all it takes, and I am qualified and unique for the job, as a by-lingual high school teacher in enterprenural subjects with specific required numer of year, etc. I will not drop out from school, I have another 7 months to finish my MEd. and my study permit is valid until April 2025. Do you any problem in my information or way of achieving the goal of gaining the benefits and expediting on being on the track for PR. I really thank you.

What school are you attending to be eligible for domestic tuition? You may have graduated by the time you get LIMA & closed work permit.

I understand. Thanks. Yet, you have not answered my point that beside the issue of domestic tuitions, I want to start the process to expedite the PR process. Instead of waiting until graduation to get a closed job offer, and start gathering points for the PR, by the time I gradate I already would have at my hand a real job. Also, any comment of the opportunity that I get my master's degree certificate without paying all my turions, instead making installments after I graduate? Would I be able to get approved for an OPEN Work Permit after I gradate if I have not obtained the "Certificate" due to not paying all the tuition at the time of graduation? Thanks for your patience!
