Hello,
I have been accepted to a PhD program at UBC and applied a week ago for my student permit, and my spouse and child will accompany me.
I am also eligible to apply for EE under FSWP, but am unsure of when I should apply. I don't mind waiting for the study permit to arrive, but I heard that even if I apply when it does, it could be risky applying to EE as well before I arrive, as the study permit requires 'an intent to return'.
I have heard that this is not an issue due to 'dual intent' and that the two applications are unrelated, but elsewhere that I might have an issue explaining myself to the officer when I arrive at the airport.
I don't want to risk either application, but being a PR as soon as is possible (not necessarily after I finish my PhD) would be so helpful for us financially while I study there. My husband could work and we could send our child to childcare for instance..
Could anyone please give me some advice?
