Student Direct Stream VS Two Step Study Permit Process

I am an international student from Pakistan who will be starting her online classes with a Canadian University this fall. I just sent in my student visa application 2 days ago using the Student Direct Stream process. I heard that another method to apply for a visa has been introduced known as the Two-Step Study Permit process.

My question is that is there any benefits that we get from using the Two-step study permit process, which we won't get if we use the Student Direct Stream process? I just want to know that since I opted for the Student Direct Stream method, am I going to be at a disadvantage for not opting for the Two-Step Study Permit Process instead?

For the Two-Step Study Permit, they announced that anyone who applied before September 15th for the student visa, their online time will count towards the post-graduation work permit. My question is that will this same rule apply for those using the Student Direct Stream process instead? If I am using the Student Direct Stream Process, do I need to JUST apply for a visa before my classes start, or should I have received my visa before online classes start?

I just want to make sure that if I applied for my student visa using specifically the Student Direct Stream Process, then will my time online count towards the Post-Grad Work Permit? Even if I receive my visa AFTER online classes start? Please note that I know this rule applies to the Two-Step Study Permit, but I want to know if this rule also applies to specifically the Student Direct Stream Process as well?

Thank You

Hey Sara, the two stage approval process applies to all applications submitted upto September 15th, be it SDS or non-SDS.

It's not a separate category in itself. Just a temporary measure to process applications and clear out the backlog.

So, basically, you'd be getting those benefits (PGWP, etc.) anyway.

Hi!
Oh so do you mean those applying for the two-stage process also use the student direct stream or the main visa application forms? I thought it's a completely different process.

Also, you mentioned I would be getting the benefit of the PGWP anyway. So, does this mean even if I don't receive my visa by the time my online classes start, my time online will still count as part of my PGWP? I just have to basically apply before classes start if I am not wrong.

Yeah, no one specifically applies for the two stage process. Applicants apply online either through SDS, if available, or the normal (non SDS) way only.

So, there's no option or difference between SDS and two stage. Your application will be processed through the two stage approval method now just like all other applications submitted upto the 15th of September.

And yeah, the time studied online would be counted towards your PGWP.

Hello Sara ,
I am also from Pakistan . I have applied to Study Pemit on January 3 through Student direct stream. But still waiting from IRCC.it takes too long even VFs has opened in Pakistan. I am worried that should i defer to January intake .
