Hi guys

just register to forum to get some advice on my situations

I am an international student, came to Canada on Oct 2007
because the english requirement and some financial issues i still have plenty of time to graduate

I am 25 and i wanted to do a good thing to myself in case of i fail to graduate from Canada, So I decided to obtain a work permit
I am married and I have a Canadian son who was born in Canada

so what should I do and being a father to a Canadian child, is it gonna be any easier ?
I am from Saudi Arabia, and sponsor by the Saudi government, however, those guys my stop paying me for any stupid reason and i this case, I won't be able to support my self and my family

any advice will be appreciated, if there is a need of official consolation, i am willing to cover the cost

cheers !

I'm assuming you want to work full time. If so, then first you have to find an employer. Once you find an employer who is willing to hire you, that employer must then apply for something called a Labour Market Opinion to request approval to hire a foreign worker. As part of this process, the employer must prove that they advertised the job and were unable to find a Canadian for the role. If the LMO is approved (not all are), you can then apply for a work permit. If the work permit is approved, you can then start working.

thank you for your response,

I don't know weather if I am deciding to work full time or not, I have a study permit which I think it will conflict if i decide to work full time as i am supposed to study full time
about the LMO ,, dose all job require the employer to have a LMO ? what if i am deciding to work at Tim Hortons or McDonalds ?

thank you

There are part time work permits available for students which allow students to work while attending school. However you have to meet the requirements to apply and you must be attending a school from the approved list. More information is here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work-offcampus.asp

If you do not qualify to apply for a part time work permit as a student, then yes, you'll need an LMO. Even if you want to work at Tim Hortons. Also, if you are successful in getting the work permit, that work permit will replace you student visa and you will no longer be allowed to attend school.
