AN EYE AWAKENER FOR THOSE WHO ARE DUPED BY FALSE PROMISES THIS IS NOT DISCOURAGE BUT TO BE CAUTIOUS OF CURRENT SCENARIO..

About the Problem - Marriage Fraud is Fraud

As explained in these articles, Canadians of all origins are being duped into sham marriages by unscrupulous immigrants. Once they have successfully short-cutted the immigration system and obtained permanent resident status they desert their sponsor/spouse sticking them with an ongoing tab for their upkeep. In addition to heartbreak these deceptions cause, they leave victims having to pay the government for all welfare and other benefits paid to the deserting spouse.

Reports to government offices routinely go unanswered while specific cases remain uninvestigated. Consequently no statistics exist, either, for how many of these fraud artists go on to take money from tax payers in the form of welfare. Victims are left with no legal protection from acts of fraud such as restitution from the victimizer or deportation (if appropriate) to help mitigate an unfair liability. Simply put, there is no consequence for these actions of immigration fraud through sham marriages.

It would seem that fraud marriage is an effective strategy as immigration enforcement is known not to persue cases of alleged immigration fraud. Currently, a spouse is awarded permanent resident status as soon as they enter the country. In many other countries there are probationary periods before prior to resident status being granted. Because of apparent weaknesses in enforcement of Canadian immigration laws, unscrupulous foreigners (who have no consience over financially breaking their victims) looking to gain entry to a more prosperous country are targeting Canadians for sham marriages and a free ride.

(Bold me)

I got married a year ago and I don't have PR status. You have to apply and give proof of relationship, and even then you usually end up with conditional PR which stays conditional for two more years. I think marriage fraud is heartbreaking for sure, but there isn't any need to spread misinformation around about it.

Be smarter when you choose your partners and you can be sure that nobody will scam you. Also it helps if you search for partners in your surrounding and not online. Problem is everybody whats hot partners and then they import them and then get screwd...... Be smart people.....its not goverement fault if u were scammed its your personal, u need to protect your self first and than if its not working you can ask for a help from others.

Looks like the OP has experienced marriage fraud and there is no real way to stop it, just as trying to stop someone passing through a red light. Sad but true - not a very bright person would fall to a marriage fraud scam.

I'm not sure what to say on this one. If I were you I would seek legal advice from a lawyer who specializes in immigration.

Hello. I am a new permanent resident as of September 6th of this year. My question is not for my husband and I but rather for a friend and his wife. Our friend I am afraid is probably a victim of Marriage Fraud. His wife is not yet here and is just now getting her interview from Cuba. What are the signs of possible marriage fraud? I can tell you a few things. He is about 48 years older than she is, he is 79 she is not quite 32. They met through her brother in law who was an interpreter for our friend on some medical mission trips. That brother in law has now fled Cuba alone without his wife and child and asked for help from our friend to make it to where he is. My friend now after a few years speaks a bit of Spanish and his wife speaks a bit of English but his wife tells him she hates the sound of English words so doe s not really want to learn it. I have heard she has a distant relative in Canada and that brother in law has made it to the USA someplace. They do have somewhat similar school backgrounds. he is a retired Ultrasound Tech she was an intern DR until she left it to marry him saying that she would not be allowed to leave Cuba as a DR so she had to quit. He has been supporting her and her child for about 2 years, they have been married about a year and a half, he has gone there twice in that time to visit. when he visits she wants him to take her entire family on vacations not ever just the two of them going places. Really he has been supporting her family because he is basically rebuilding the house she and her parents live in thinking it needs to be done before she would move away from them.... This friend has been married 3 other times his wife has been married once before. This is my husbands best friend even though even we are young enough to be his children, so I care what might be happening to him. How do I/We help him through this time if she is not approved at her interview as I sort of suspect she won't. If she does get to come to Canada how do I support her when I do not speak Spanish

It does sound suspicious but if you are wrong you crush his happiness. If you still want to report it go to the immigration website and search for report marriage fraud.

Here are some thing to consider.

If you are best friends with this man and have a large age difference can you not see is it possible that this woman can love him despite the age difference?
If her family goes on vacations with them it is more time for them all to get to know each other and he may learn more about her by watching her with her family. Or he wants to give her the gift of bringing the family on vacations because they are a close loving family.
If she is not approved don't tell him you suspected fraud just treat him as you would a dear friend who has lost his love.
If she does come you can be supportive by actions not words.
I urge you to be very cautious about interference in your good friend's marriage.

I know what you mean. Both my husband and I don't want to see him hurt. As to the vacations as a family, he does not want to do them every time. Even he sometimes feels she thinks of him as a cash cow although he tries to tell her he is not rich to her e lives like he is rich. Every person he knows told him not to marry someone so you, I mean she could easily be his granddaughter not just a daughter. He chose to marry her anyway. It all feels like it could get very messy. Our friend has said he is not willing to move to Cuba if she is not allowed to immigrate here to Canada so only time will tell what happens next

It must be very difficult for you to be going through this with your good friend. I wish you both the best.

From what alot of people have been saying Singapore seems to be one of the most notorious visa offices to have to go through! But I always say eventually truth prevails.....

Singapore is a brutal visa office indeed. But with a strong relationship background and a well prepared application with lots of supporting documents, it's a relative pussy cat of a visa office. My wife got her PR card in under 6 months last year, which is way faster than normal compared to 2014 applicants, and now, I've seen at least 3 applicants in 2015 from Singapore VO get their visas in just 3 months, which is unheard of considering 3 months even beats applicants from the US.

Singapore as brutal a VO as it can be, is definitely starting to turn things around this year, as the interview times are no longer 24 months, but more around 12 months. And PR visas are being issued with lightning speed for straightforward cases.
