Hello. I was born and raised in a small Manitoba town. My boyfriend lives in Massachusetts USA. How would we go about him moving here and living here permanently? At the moment he lives with his parents and technically has no ties to where he lives. So I know that if asked he were to apply for a visitor's visa he would most likely be refused. We obviouly have not lived together and having him apply for a spouse/commonlaw visa would not work.

I guess one of my questions would be if he were to drive/fly here and he was to say if was to visit friends/family would he be turned down? If he is allowed in and we get married and his passport says he has 6 months til he has to return to the US. Do we just renew the stay? Do we apply for another visa? I've recently gone bankrupt and have since then been discharged. Other than that there is nothing else that would be holding him or I back. No criminal record etc. I just dont really know how to go about it the fastest legal way. I dont know if I've read this correctly, but if i visit him there (fly with a return ticket) and get married while there, does it make the process any easier? How easy is it to get married while in the US? I know that I have alot of questions, but I've spent the last 5 hours reading over these forums and looking at laws and still have no idea where to start. We really love eachother and just dont know where to start. I guess I just dont know if just getting married is the easiest way to be together. With the obvious forms and stuff making it all legal (pics, liscense, family's support) to show its real.

If anyone can help me we would be much appreciated. Also if anyone has any questions for either of us ask away!

Thanks in advance :D

Re: I have a few questions I would like answered!

So I just read another post and figured out he doesnt really need a visa just a passport. So I guess Im wondering if he came to visit and we got married what would our next step be? And could he get employment while here? Or does he then need some special permit or something?

Well if you got married as soon as he arrives (but not quite likely since you would need to apply for the marriage license and the like). If he's given/allowed a 6 months stay and you mobilized the sponsorship application as soon as you have the requirements, you can send for an application to extend his stay in Canada before his allowed visit expires. He can't get start working with out a valid work permit. He would need to find an employer willing to file for LMO in his favour; then he applies for WP or go to the nearest border to your place and obtain his WP from there.

Re: I have a few questions I would like answered! PLEASE HELP!

What kind of documnets would we need to get married here before hes stay is up? So if we were to get married after he comes here what kind of application would i have to file? Spouse? And how long would a good time be to wait to file it? Also how hard would it be to apply for a WP if we got married? I kinda want to also know how easy it would be for us to get married while he is here.

I just read something else that states that to meet the requirements of a work permit that the person must prove that you will leave Canada at the end of your employment. How would he do that if we get married and he is not planning to leave? It also asks marital status for the permit. Which I assume he would put married if we are by then. Would this not affect him getting the permit? Or should he apply for one before he comes here or after he gets LMO confirmation and before were married? This is just too confusing!
