Steps after receiving CoPR and Visa ?

After 2 days of landing in Canada, I need to make a trip to the US for 2 weeks and then re-enter Canada.

Rakhee: how did this situation end up resolving? I should be receiving my CoPR soon, I have a BOWP arriving, but I'm leaving to spend the Christmas break with my family in the US. I was planning to land before my current WP expires 11/30 (not as necessary with the BOWP coming), but it seems it will complicate my return flight from the US (Dec 18–31), since I will be without a PR card (based on processing times).

While I do have NEXUS to aid/ease US-Canada travel, CBSA guidelines are that I still need to have a PR card on-hand when crossing if CBSA requests it (since I will be a landed PR by status at that point). Reading up on this, I am thinking that I may be better off landing when I return from that US trip (Dec 18–31), which I hope won't take too long (to my partner's and daughter's chagrin).

Once we receive the copr and stamp in passport for inland app and wish to travel. Can we come back and do the landing and show the work visa and tourist visa to enter or will they not be valid anymore ?

After receiving COPR, there's 2 options (go to office for interview or flagpole/leave and enter country).

Which is more reliable? I believe for the office interview we have to wait for few weeks but flagpole can be done immediately.

Which one do you guys recommend?

I have a similar situation, the date at which we land is the issuing date on our PR card, So I think there is no issue in our case since your stay after your landing should not be considered illegal.

My wife and I received our copr and Canadian stamped visa valid till Dec 24, 2019.
We are planning to travel to India via Canada and get our PR initiated in Canada that way. We need to get our US Visa stamped in India.
Can we initiate our PR while transiting from Canada to India? How long is the process? Our stamped Canada visa would expire by the time we travel back from India, do we need to apply for a travel document? Any help/suggestion would be appreciated.
I did check interview dates in Canada for US Visa stamping but nothing is available till Jan, 20

Hello everyone,

First of all, I would like to thank everyone for their continuous support & assistance in this forum. I have been following this forum for a while and it has been really helpful to get help in any subjects regarding Canadian immigration.

I am a CEC inland applicant and my AOR is May 21st. I am in NA2 stage at the moment. I am hoping I will get PPR in mid to late September looking at the current progress in CEC category.

I am planning to go to India for a few months once I get my passport back with PR visa stamp. My medical expires in May 2018 so hopefully PR visa will be valid till May, 2018 as well. I want to travel to few countries in Asia and then come back to Canada. And I am a bit confused in landing procedure and PR card arrival. Please see below four options and advise which one is best:

Option – 1

Once I get PR visa stamp in my passport, I can do the landing procedure at one of many Port of Entries ( Niagara Falls ) and then leave to India in a week or two. I can give my friend’s address for PR card to be mailed to. He is also going to India in Dec so he can bring my PR card with him. I can then come back to Canada. My return date is flexible so I can wait a bit longer till I get PR card in my hand in India. So while returning to Canada, will border officials ask me how come I left the country just after landing and without receiving PR card myself? Will it create any issue? In this case, I can come back any time since I will have PR card in my hand. There will not be any limit or expiry date to enter Canada. Please confirm this if someone can.

Option – 2

Once I get PR visa stamp in my passport, I can fly to India in a week without landing. I can then stay in India and visit few countries for few months and then come back to Canada and finish landing procedure before May, 2018. In this case, will it create any issues if I would have visited few countries in Asia and have those additional visa stamps from those countries?

Option – 3

For some reason, if I don’t get my PR card while I am in India after landing, I can apply for PR Travel document and use it to enter in Canada without PR card. How difficult is the process for applying PRTD? Will border officers ask me any questions?

Option-4

While coming back to Canada, I can then fly to USA and cross the border by rental car using my COPR which is legal as I found in previous threads. In this case, will border officers ask me any questions?

what was the solution can u pls help?

1) my question is that i wud be traveling from india and cant stay in canada for more than a couple of days due to financial reasons; i can give a relative/friend's address and they can courier/post me the PR card, but i have heard its not allowed to post the PR card?

1. You can easily do this. There's nothing stopping your friend from couriering you the card. There is no such rule.
2. No. They won't care as long as you are meeting your RO.
3. No. They want you to give them an address. It's your responsibility to give them the correct address.
4. Yes, you should get your SSN. It takes 20 minutes, and can be done at Pearson Airport if you land during business hours. If you land late at night, you can get the SIN the next day at any Service Canada office. It's very easy and quick.
The rest (opening a bank account, for example), depends on your plans. If you are planning to move back soon, say in a month or two, you can open an account to make it easier to transfer funds from India.

Yes, you can. The process usually takes less than an hour, but it depends on how busy it is. You should try and get a 5-6 hour layover to be on the safe side.

However, you will not be allowed to fly back via Canada without a PR Card/PRTD. You can apply for a PRTD in India if you are there for 3-4 weeks. If not, you should plan to fly back directly to the US, or transit via Europe.

So, once I have my PR card, i need to travel back to canada to make sure i meet the 2-3 yrs time span within canada before the first 5 years is how you mean?

Yes, RO is Residency Obligations. It's 730 days in five years (2/5).

You have to move to Canada within three years of getting your PR to maintain your RO. In practice, it's usually better to move sooner so that you have some buffer days in case of travel.

No idea what that blog post is talking about. Canada has no rule about not mailing your PR cards. Maybe he's talking about customs at some other country. I know that many people mail the cards and I haven't yet seen a case of someone having their cards seized at customs. Sure, it's possible I guess but not very likely.
