Hi, I'm a Canadian citizen planning to quit my job and go live with my fiance in Vietnam and most likely have kids as soon as possible (we're both mid 30's with me being a few months older). I plan to leave for Vietnam in January and start preparing for our wedding in a month thereafter. I proposed to her in September 2012. Being apart from her this long is unbearable and reading about people being apart from their loved ones for even longer I don't know if I have the mental fortitude to withstand that lengthy of a time period.

So I would like to know if I would have any problems proving my intent to return to Canada if I have no job. I don't ever plan to work for anyone again. I do have 2 houses in Canada, my RRSP is near maxed out and so is my TFSA. My main stable income would be my rental incomes from my Canadian properties and secondary would be stock investments.

Yes I would think it sounds obvious I have strong Canadian ties but the Canadian government never ceases to surprise me with the most obvious of things. I just want to be sure I'm not quitting my job and finding out 2 years down the road it's a roadblock to my sponsorship application.

You should be fine. My partner was approved as a sponsor while he had been living outside of Canada for 5 years, and was returning without a job or a place to stay.
You don't need a job to prove that you are coming back. It's the "easiest" one, but as long as you put together a good application, and explain your plans, you should be fine. Show that you have ties to Canada, if you have discussed that with friends or family, get them to write a letter explaining how they know about your plans etc.

as a sponsor, you also need to prove that you have ways of supporting yourself with your family - so explaining your properties etc will also help.

Good luck,
