VISA ISSUED...
Nov 28, 2013
Hi everyone!

I'll be applying for a student visa and hopefully will be successful (I've applied to a few colleges)
My husband will be going with me and should be getting an open permit to work while I study. We're hoping to stay after I graduate but when I apply for a student visa, I apparently have to "satisfy an immigration officer that you will leave Canada when you have completed your studies".

But my husband and I would love to stay after and plan on applying for work permits/PR if possible.
If asked, do we have to say that we're returning after graduation? Is it not ok to plan on staying..?

Thanks in advance! :)

Most of the students who go to Canada stay after their studies to get international exposure and also apply for pr within 6 months of graduation. But to get your visa you definitely have to project yourself to a visa officer that you will be leaving Canada after your studies else he may cancel your visa. Also for a 2 year course you will get 3 years PGWP(post graduate work permit). i.e you can stay in Canada for three years and work their and gain experience. For 1 year its one year and 8 months of study period will give you 8 months permit. Since you have applied for a 2 year program you and your husband can stay in Canada for 3 years after graduation. While you will be staying with your PGWP plan , your husband can apply for dependent visa for 3 years

I have the same dilemma because me and my husband applied as immigrant 2 years ago and got rejected so it's really hard to prove to them that we are not planning to stay in Canada after studying. Any suggestion? Is it guaranteed that once I got my student permit, my husband will also get TRV or OWP and we can go together or there are cases where the husband or wife will get it say after a year or two? Thank you so much and I'm very happy to see this thread. ;D
