Hi Everyone,

Can someone please help me with this big question?
My wife (sponsor) and I sent our Application on November 21st, 2012. She was accepted as a sponsor last February 23rd, 2013. I received an email last February 27, from the Embassy in Bogotá confirming they had received my application. Everything is ok so far and checking my application status they confirm that it was received as well as the Medical Exams.
I traveled through an exchange program to Germany on February 3rd, 2012 and I am planning to stay here until December (came to obtain international certifications in German and French).
My question is if the fact that I am here may affect my process in Colombia, delaying it in a way. I haven't notified the office since all my contact information (address, phone in Colombia and email) is Active. Do you know if it is true that they may track you down or spy you with secret agents or so? I have heard people say that they have noticed people following them. I think they do it. I am concerned about it. The medical exams expire on May 30th, and if I have to go to Colombia to have them updated I will do it, no problem! I am simply worried about being contacted to send my passport or other documents and then I am here. Additionally, if they realize I am here in Germany (they will eventually, they know all about you), will that affect me in a way?

I appreciate your help.

Thank youuuu!!!

Albert.

As long as you sent the application truthfully, and you can be reached through the contact information you provided, you would be fine. You might want to update your contact information to the German ones though. If needed, you will need to travel back to Colombia for interview and you say that's not a problem.

Unless you have criminal record, they will not spy on you. They simply don't have time to do that.

Well you're the applicant right?? For outland sponsorship, I don't think it matters where the applicant is! It's the sponsor that has to be careful....if the sponsor is a PR, then the sponsor has to be in Canada during the process. If the sponsor is a Canadian citizen, then he/she may stay outside of Canada during the process, but he/she has to provide proofs that he/she will return to Canada once the sponsored person is granted PR...

But you're the applicant, so it doesn't matter where you are.....enjoy your stay in Germany! :)

I actually LOLed when reading this!

Don't worry. The CIC can't even afford enough employees to track people who commit marriage fraud inside Canada. They for sure won't be hiring private detectives and operatives to spy on applicants!

The medical exams expire on May 30th, and if I have to go to Colombia to have them updated I will do it, no problem!
If your medicals expire, you can do new medicals anywhere in the world that CIC has a panel physician available. So no need to go back to Columbia for this, just get them done wherever you are at the time.

I am simply worried about being contacted to send my passport or other documents and then I am here.
This sounds like a valid concern. If you are in Germany, how would you send your passport to Colombia? You can perhaps mail it to them, but then you will be without passport in Germany. The best way is probably to return to Colombia when the time comes to give them your passport.

Ana Maria, yes, our application is truthful and it was well-elaborated an complete and I have no criminal record.

Fandv, your words are a real relief. It's true, it's outland sponsorship, I AM the applicant and so it shouln't matter where I am as long as I provide all info and required docs and as long as I can be reached with the contact info provided. My wife is already a Canadian citizen. She's in Colombia but is coming back to Canada next month (stayed in Colombia for 3 months only). I am highly positive now and less worried. I will enjoy more my stay here. Thanks for your help.

Rob_TO, hahaha. I am just too paranoid. I am glad they spy thing doensn't take place, lol. I want to let you know that I am really surprised by learning that your process just went way too fast! Six months? I have just checked and for Korea it is 10 months (17 in Colombia), and you are already in Canada!!! How come! ;) i am glad for you. Thanks for your detailed quotes and advice. I will search then for a physician near my area so that I can be ready by the time I am required new med's. You're right. The biggest and most valid concern is the one of the passport. Some applicant get their passports required and receive the visa in a couple of weeks, while for others it just takes months! I could have all: med's and additional evidence sent from here. Maybe the passport, too, though it might get difficult to leave Europe, lol.

Thank you very much for your help. If anyone else wants to share experiences or coments here, feel free and welcome to do so.

Albert

Hi I wonder how long it took for them to give you your passport back. I am worried about this when the time comes, because I study in US and I can not just bring my passport there personally and wait for them to give it back and come back to US.

Thanks
