Stayed Outside Canada with a Valid PR- Can I re-enter?

Hello all,

I really hope to find some help here as I'm really confused.

I'm a Conventional Refugee who got her PR on March 2012. On June 2012, I traveled to Dubai where I got married and stayed until now, April 2014. My marriage was annulled a month ago. I now plan to go back to Canada in a couple of month, do my Masters there and eventually get settled.

However, during my stay in Dubai I travelled to my home country twice for 10 days each; One time to visit my sick grandma and the other time to visit my ex-husbands' family who resides there.

My PR is valid until May, 2017.

My question is: Will I be allowed to re-enter Canada given the mentioned circumstances? Would they deport me from the airport if they aren't satisfied with my answers? What should I do? Please advise asap.

Thank you in advance.

You will be able to enter Canada because, as a PR you have that right.

HOWEVER, your visits to your home country, which is presumably where you were claiming refugee status from, may cause you some problems. It is possible that your refugee claim may be reviewed in the light of that visit, on the basis that you appear not to be needing protection any longer. This can happen even after you have been granted PR status...

Thank you for your reply Zardoz.

So what do you suggest I should do? Is there a possible solution?
What kind of problems may I face at the immigration?

My refugee claim was valid and going back to my home country was necessary at the time.

All assistance will be highly appreciated.

Thank you

Personally, I think the best option is to just come back to Canada, using your PR card and see what happens.
There is not a great deal else you can do, and you may well not be questioned at all. Certainly, worrying will not help.

I may be thinking too much but I don't know why I fear being deported right away.

I wanna make sure I am prepared at least to answer at least the basic questions they ask at the immigration.

Not going to happen... Seriously... At the very least, there is a whole "reporting" and "appeal" process to go through before that could happen. That could take months or even years.

Thank you so much for your patience with me. You are very kind.

I will return and let's see what happens.

Thank you. :)

Input from others who may have experienced something similar will be highly appreciated.

Also, may I request Leon to please give his input/ heads up too?
