Hello everyone, just a quick question regarding this form, Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union IMM 5409, I have to send one off with my offshore spouse sponsorship PR application.

So I as I understand it I fill this form in and then take it to a Notary Public with my partner and suitable I.D to be signed and witnessed, where it says evidence we can only tick one box at this point which is the joint bank accounts, do I just bring in evidence of our joint bank account?

For the actual PR application we have lots of other evidence but none other than the joint accounts are listed on this form, so is that enough to take in to be Notarized?

Thanks for any help offered. :)

The notary is only confirming that it is you and your partner that are signing the document. They are not confirming the common-law relationship so the proof will not be required when taking the document to sign.

ok great thanks, I had a feeling that is what it was for. So just to prove that we both actually exist and are doing out selves and not someone imitating us right? Why then does it have the questions about common-law proof?

It is an odd document. I think the proof part is there because if there was a co-signer that was a common-law spouse that is where you would attach the proof. I didn't bother re-sending the proof since it had already been sent as part of the applicants package.

Are you and your common-law spouse sponsoring someone else together? This form is for that.
