Thanks for that!! I'm sponsoring my spouse, and he lives in the Dominican Republic (well actually we both live there)... Really you need to re-do the medical exam if the processing takes longer than a year?? With most cases I've heard coming from here, the time is generally 12-18 months... :(

Yes, a lot of people do have to re-do their medical exams. In some visa offices, they ask for the medical after they start processing. You'll need to check the region-specific guide for instructions.

You have to go in person to an office in Santo Domingo to get a D.R. police certificate. It doesn't say how long they take. Instructions are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english//information/security/police-cert/central-south-amer/dominican-republic.asp
