I will be arriving on 13th July (will be in Canada fro 30 days) for the first time after receiving my Confirmation of Permanent Residence.

Will i be able to start a new bank account ? If Yes, what are are documents required.

I am expected to bring CAD as part of immigration and could only use it if i could deposit into a bank. Hope this could be done. Regards Isaac

Are you trying to open the account before or after you arrive in Canada?

After is easy. Take your COPR and passport to the bank and ask the Teller to open an account for you. You should research the banks and know what type of account you want beforehand. You can also try opening it online. I did that, although I had to take my ID into the bank branch because I didn't have a SIN yet.

Before is more tricky and I'm not sure how you could do it. It would depend a lot on the bank.

Most of the big banks have "newcomer to Canada" programs that make it easy to open an account. All I needed at our local CIBC branch in Vancouver was my U.S. passport with the COPR. I suggest you check out what banks are in the area where you think you'll be living, then look on their websites for info regarding opening an account. They all seem to have similar programmes and information online. Good luck, and welcome!
