Pre-Assessed..
Hey guys! My open work permit is valid until July 5th. I quit my old job because they wouldn't get me an LMIA and am now in talks with a new possible employer that may be willing to give me one.

My question is, if I can start work right away because of my open work permit, how should the LMIA process look? Can I start working now and have the employer ask for an LMIA to be valid from the expiry date of my visa?

My job is exempt from the advertising requirement.

Yes you can start work now, on the other hand you can apply fom LMIA at the same time to support EE. Keep that in your mind, you r going to apply LMIA to be support immigration only, not to extend WP, and look back and count the time that you worked with previous employer , if you have worked for that compnay at least 1 year to be eligible for CEC. If not then you will be in a trouble .

So the employer has to state that they are applying for an LMIA to support my immigration to Canada rather than a work permit?

My bad I haven't noticed that your WP ending this July, your employer has to apply LMIA for both, like extend WP along with support you to immigrate to Canada. You should have aplied on January 2015 since it takes atleast 5 months including advertising. but, it still fine, go ahead and do ASAP.
