Hello, I am a US citizen moving to Canada next week for a Visiting Scholar position of just under 6 months duration. The Canadian university I will be working at provided me with an offer of employment that had a start date of August 15th, 2012 (I requested this date several months ago because I thought I might move up earlier in August than ended up being the case). Will the start date for my job offer already being passed be a problem for the immigration officer? The university is of course fine with my position beginning whenever I arrive.

Thanks for your help.

It MIGHT be a problem. Or you might be able to say that the University put that date down because it was convenient when you first discussed it, but they are fine with you showing up later.

Best thing is to show up during the day, when they can call someone at the University to confirm this if they have any questions. In my experience, CBSA are fairly relaxed about these things - they do want it to be correct, but they are flexible enough to deal with minor issues such as this one.
