This article is really about two things: 1. distance learning and study permits (they don't go together under CIC's rules - the flipside is you can take 1005 online / distance learning courses without a study permit). 2. the practice, previously discussed on this forum, of combining a 1 year certificate with a special 2 year "general arts and sciences" program for a PGWP. The twist was, one or more colleges in Ontario would accept transfer credit so you only needed to do one semester to 'earn' a 2 year credential. For 16 months of total study time, some people were getting 3 year PGWPs . Now, CIC has caught on and rejected a bunch.

Not sure if we can quote whole articles here, so, link below:

Re: Star article: Foreign students denied work permits over ‘distance learning'

The distance learning thing is no surprised and should be well known. It's clearly spelled out in CIC's rules.

As for people who were cheating the system with courses such as GAS to obtain a 3 year work permit they didn't actually qualify for - yes, that's a recent development. CIC finally caught onto this trick - and have started refusing PGWPs for these individuals and ordering them to leave Canada. We've seen a case or two here where this has happened.

I am sure one thing.. Distance learning course is not qulify for pgwp. We all know that...

CIC mentions that only accept full time program which is more than 8 months ... and not online course...

Also.. it must be public school...
