Hi there,
my wife is international studen finishing her couse on Augus. I hold a work permit becuase of her. I have just found a high skill job in the city of toronto as a business analyst. The George brown advisor is telling me that I cannot get a visa until my wife finishes on 18th Aug 2023, received school letter 3 weeks after, and finds a job, receive 2 salary payments. Or if she finds a job now, still we have to wait until Aug 18 when she finishes and 3-4 weeks after she receives the letter, then we’ll rush to border and get a visa stamp there right away.

is that correct?

Thanks!

Spouse work visa is only dependent upon the status of the spouse being valid as far as I knew. Hope you don't have any province restriction on your work permit.

Her study permit and your WP should expire after she graduates so that shouldn’t be an issue. You are the secondary applicant so yes your WP is dependent on your wife’s PGWP and ability to secure a job that will allow you to qualify for an OWP. Assume your employer is not wanting to go through the time and expense of applying for an LMIA and then you would apply for a closed work permit. If you meet all the requirements to qualify for an OWP and you can flagpole at the nearest border but make sure to verify when they accept flagole applications and whether they only accept a certain amount per day. Approving permits is not the primary job of the border and especially during busy periods the office may not process flagpole applications. Many seem to only take a certain amount of applications per day so people show up at some borders at 8am to make sure they secure a spot for that day. Every border ie different so make sure to call in advance to ask about the flagpoling hours and policies at each border you are considering.
