Pre-Assessed..
Hi,

I am in the process of applying for a sponsorship for my husband who is living abroad. He is currently holding a citizenship, but have applied for another citizenship which he is entitled to have it after his mother's citizenship.

He is expected to acquire the new citizenship by February,2018, while the current one will be completely revoked and his current passport will be cancelled.

my concern now is:

1. Can i apply for sponsorship for my husband with the current citizenship and when he acquires the new one update the application information?

2. If i can apply and change the citizenship later, will this affect the processing duration of the application.

3. If I apply and didn't update the citizenship, what would be the consequences at stamping the landing visa?

Thanks.

1. Yes.

2. It may delay the app while IRCC runs any necessary checks for the new citizenship.

3. If you send the new passport without updating IRCC, he will not be issued a COPR/visa. The passport must match the app.

Regarding #2, where is he living now? In his country of citizenship, or elsewhere?

Assuming you apply for his PR OUTLAND, the app will most likely be processed in the visa office based on his current citizenship. If he suddenly loses this citizenship and no longer lives there, technically he would no longer be eligible to be processed from that visa office. They may transfer his file to the visa office that serves his new citizenship, causing delays in the app.

Or they may simply continue processing in original visa office, even though he holds a new citizenship.

Also if an interview happens to be required, it may be in the country he has lost citizenship in. So hopefully even though they revoke his citizenship, he is still allowed to travel there.
