Is it possible to have a spouse come over on a visitor visa while the sponsorship application is still being processed?

I'm going to submit the application some time around November, but my spouse wanted to visit during the spring/summer months. There's no guarantee that the application will have been processed by that time, so we were wondering if she could possibly come over on a visitor visa instead. Is this possible? If so, would it have any affect on the sponsorship application? I heard that visitor visas can be extended up to six months, and that'd be more than enough time for us to spend together.

Thanks.

Just as I thought... the process is as complex and convoluted as I thought it'd be. I'm already pissed off to no end due to the fact that I'm going to have to prove that my marriage is genuine, and now they're going to make it harder for my spouse to get a visitor visa as well. All we want is to be together. This is so damn frustrating.
