Hello all, i want to know if applications for spousal open work permit are under process during this COVID -19 SITUATION or not. As i want to apply for my husband's file. I came in canada in January 2020. Can i apply for one or should i wait.Or when can i apply for. Please respond.

what is your current status in Canada? When did you get it and when were you married?

Yes you can apply although an SOWP is never guaranteed. Are you classes running? There is no need to spend money on a consultant If you don’t want to. Processing is likely to take longer and the economy is likely going to be in a recession so not an ideal time to come to Canada with a work permit. If you want to apply you must make sure to apply early enough because you won’t get approved if you have less than 6 months left on your permit. It is important to show your relationship a long with your marriage. The other thing you must show is that you have the extra funds to support someone if neither of you find full-time or part-time employment.

How much funds i have to show in my account. As i came here in jan. So i deposit GIC in my account before i cane here.
As my marriage is 2 years old. So what document i need to show them as a support .
One more thing i count find any job.

There is no exact amount. Depending in your financial situation it may be better to wait until you have found part-time employment. If you have enough money to pay your tuition for your whole schooling and all you living expenses and still have at least 5-10k more you are likely ok. If you are doing a masters or PhD there seems to be a bit more flexibility. Just follow the application. To prove your relationship you need to show wedding and time spent living together over time with picture. Many people aren’t approved when they have an arranged marriage right before leaving for Canada or fly home quickly to get married. Unfortunately the marriage could just be for the permit and it is very difficult to prove a genuine relationship if a person has only spent a few days living together.
