hello, i am living in uk with my wife, she is canadian citizen, and i am in uk for last 7 years, we are planning to move to canada, i have been told that , its possible that i go there as a visitor and then apply for open work permit and then apply spouse visa as its quicker, we are expecting our baby mid next year so confused what to do !!!

It depends what country you are a citizen of. If you are a UK citizen, yes, you can go to Canada as a visitor, then once you are in Canada your wife can sponsor you either inland or outland. She could also send the application in now while she is living in the UK, in which case it would have to be an outland application. You could still visit Canada while waiting.

If you are a citizen of a country whose nationals require a visa to enter Canada, then you would first have to apply for a TRV - a visitor visa - to enter Canada. Again, your wife could send an outland application now while she is still in the UK.

Thanks for your reply, i am pakistani living in uk on a entreprenuer visa, i need to apply for visit visa , so when i get there can i extend my temperary visa unto work permit and then spouse visa, which allows me to work while waiting for my spouse visa? i checked online it say from uk it takes upto 28 months for the whole process which is alot of time for us !!! thankyou so much for your time and help

Given that you will be able to come to Canada on a visitor visa, your Canadian spouse could apply for INLAND spousal sponsorship stream for you. The INLAND application gives you the benefit of staying and working (you include open work permit application in the same package as spousal application) in Canada while it is being processed.
But keep in mind that this path is available only if both of you present and living in Canada.
If you will not be granted a visitor visa to Canada, or will be denied entry at the border, the other path which will be available to you is the outland application, which as the name implies, you might need to spend outside of Canada.

thanka for the info, thats what i wanted to know, yes we both planning to go there and stay, i will apply for my visiting visa some time now, as we are expecting a baby next year, so i belive this will b the best option to b there together and wait for the process, as u said i can apply for the open work permit at the same time , how long will that take ? i wil be waiting long for it to come which means i wont be able to work till then!!

The OWP comes after initial approval. I believe it is about 3-5 months but you should check the Inland application thread to get the most up to date information.
