Hi,

My husband has gone to Canada for his studies last month.
I want to apply for a TRV to visit him. How much duration of visit should I show? And for how much time they issue the visitor visa.

Please advise.

How much duration of visit should you ask for? Depends a lot on your circumnstances and travel history. Usually it is 2-3 weeks, but can vary a lot.

Can be from 1 day to the expiration date of your passport.

Never ever ask for more than a few weeks. You will likely be refused, and also need to show more proof of funds for a longer stay. Just ask for 2-3 weeks, you'll only need to show lesser funds, and you'll be more likely to be approved and may even get a multiple TRV or permitted to stay longer in Canada.

My wife asked for a few weeks, she ended up getting a multiple for life of passport. Better than asking for a few months, and being refused.

Thanks Mikey...
Since my husband has gone previous month..is it ok to apply for TRV now for 2 weeks though?
Also, do we need medical exam for tourist visa as well?
Do I need to show my retutn tickets or itenerary?

Hi Ankris,

Try to think what visa officer will image your case, your husband go to Canada for studying and you apply TRV visitor visa after a month. Why they do not apply visa in the same time, why they apply TRV not OWP? you must have a strong reason to apply TRV after a month because they known that you can change from TRV to OWP after landing to Canada.

I would advise you should prepare a strong statement of purpose letter for your visiting.

Hope you will get visa soon and let us know the result.

Tks, Thang

Hi sonata95,

Thanks for your advise.
I did not apply at that time because I dont plan to move to canada because of my job here. I have a very good job here and I want to continue it.
I want to visit him because of my birthday and festivities in month of October. After that, I will return back. You think I should have a more stronger reason?

Hi Ankris,

I don't think it is enough strong reason because the gap between you and your husband is quite short. You can try to apply visa now or waiting for 6 month

Hi ,

My name is Chhaya and i work for a private company in new delhi, India since year 2011. I recently got married in january 2014 and my spouse currently holds a post graduate work permit visa valid until 2017 and is a an IT professional- server administrator which comes under skill level a, b, c and I have travelled to canada on a TRV visa and returned bak to join my office. I understand that i may be eligible for an open work permit which takes 4 to 5 months for processing , i would like to know if i can apply for a tourist visa simultaneously and travel on the same until an outcome for open work permit is received if not can i just apply for a tourist visa and lodge the open work permit ( dependent spouse) once i reach calgary, canada as i plan to resign from the job soon but i am concerned -will resigning from the job minimise my chances of getting trv visa even though my spouse holds a work visa till 2017.

Grateful if u can help me with this query at earliest

Thanks in advance

Regards

Chhaya

Hi Ankris,

In my opinion, I don't think strong enough you have to proof your properties in your home country like (land, housing) what will make sure you will come back after expiring visa.

Hi Ankris,

Try to attached document as much as possible to proof that you will come back to your home country after visiting your husband in Canada. Canada visa officer love to see document.

I don't know how your husband can get visa for study permit but one reason, you are there so your husband can get visa because he has a strong tie in his home country.

Now, you want to visit Canada in short time after your husband in Canada what is your strong ties in home country?

Anyway, you have to try to apply but you should to convince yourself that document you have is strong enough to convince visa officer.
