Hello Every,

i'm new to this site and i see many people getting there doubts and clarifications done here. I have a question regarding spouse sponsorship.

I have got ITA for applying PR recently (I leave in canada)and soon will send my doc's. But now i'm going to get married by the year end(probably I have 9 months of time by that time i will have my PR in hand). Not sure how to get her from India.

I see many posts and suggestions for TRV or open work permit and i'm confused. Can any one suggest

If I'm PR holder and applied for spouse later. Once the file is in process can she apply for open work permit. If she can how long does the work permit is valid. Which is the best chance of getting her to Canada?

Ur suggestions can help me a lot. Thanks in advance for helping.
:)
Sam.

You can either 1) Add her as soon as you are married, as accompanying and update your IRCC application so she can get PR at the same time as you or 2) Add her as non-accompanying, and apply for her PR after you land, or 3) Get your PR, land, THEN get married and sponsor her.

Whatever you do, don't get married without informing IRCC before you land, or you can never sponsor her.

I might be going for option# 2 or 3. 2 is easy. I have questions on 3.

  1. (A) I can either come back to India, get married, go back and file PR for spouse OR (B) spouse can visit on visitor visa, get married, go back to India and then I file PR. Both these options are valid, right?
  2. For above option (A)
- When I fly back to Canada, do I need to inform about the change in my marital status to anyone/anywhere?
- Will I need to carry any documents back with me (except for the marriage certificate) ?
- Will I need to update my passport to add spouse name?
