I've got a few questions regarding the sponsoring of a spouse, Outland. We are looking to submit the application for P/R, however we are not looking to move to Canada right after the P/R is approved, but we are looking to travel to Canada to visit / look around, and activaite the P/R. Can we do this or do we have to move to Canada right after the P/R is approved.

Also if you activate your P/R and then say move to another country for a year or 2, do you still pay taxes to Canada or the country you are in, as far as I am aware you pay taxes to the country you are resident of.......as per the agreement with Canada and UK.

Finally, do anyone know if you can claim a mother-in-law as a dependant, if they live with you and are finacially dependant on you? I heard that you might be able to sponsor them into the country as a in-house care giver? Not sure if that's true or not.

cheers

You are only eligible to apply to sponsor family to Canada while living abroad if you are a Canadian citizen - and you will have to demonstrate that you intend to accompany your family members to Canada when they are approved, or they won't be.

Don't know the answer to this.

No, a mother-in-law does not fall under the definition of a "dependent". If you sponsored your wife, she might then be able to sponsor her mother to Canada at a later date - but there are conditions that apply concerning other family members already in Canada. There are others here who know more about that, and about the live-in caregiver process. Hopefully they'll respond as well.
