Hi guys,

I have a unique situation. My spouse has been living outside canada for about 4 years now. She is a canadian citizen was able to sponsor me. I just received my passport request from the CHC. I wanted to know if it is important for my spouse to accompany me when I land in Canada? Or can I land first and she can come later?

The reason I am confused is that according to the sponsorship requirements, my spouse showed CHC that she will resettling in canada as soon as I get my immigration.. however, it is currently not possible for her to accompany me to canada before the expiring of my immigrant visa.

any help will be much appreciated.

Hi aj,

Being your wife is a Canadian citizen, she had the privilege of sponsoring you while she lived outside Canada. In this situation your wife might have provided evidence that she will reside in Canada at the time you become permanent residents of Canada. So she has to meet that obligation when you land.CIC approved your PR on the basis of her agreement and the purpose is for both living together in Canada. While landing the officer would ask question about her, her address, telephone number etc. How you are going to deal the situation.

Hi wilson,

Thanks for your response. I understand what you are trying to say, and that was what I had in mind too before asking this question.
In your opinion, if we both come together to canada, would that suffice? Or does she have to be in canada before I land?

Hi :)
There is no problem for going together to Canada. It would be a very happy journey for both of you as you are accompanying your partner. She will leave you alone after passing the CBSA counter and you have to report to the immigration counter alone for "landing" formalities. That could take 15 minutes.

Have a nice trip.
