Spouse sponsership and work permit application

Hello all,

Looking for some information on a specific situation. My friend's company is sponsoring his work permit to work in their Canadian office. His spouse sponsorship application is already in process (just started recently).
Will it have any effect on the work permit which is about to get filed ?

Asking this question on his behalf. Looking forward for comments on the same.
